Take a peek below at what Chris from The Flatliners had to say about the track:
Back in the Great Depression, responsible, successful men became vagrants. Everyone was cast out like an economic-turned-social eclipse. When these people without homes or any sentiments of hope couldn’t find a safe place to sleep at night during these trivial times, their only option left was to “carry the banner.” This meant they’d risk sleeping on the streets while trying to avoid being locked up for vagrant charges or worse, being killed.
We’re lucky enough to live in a time where the world is a bit more stable than it was back then, but people need to remember we’re not too far off from where we were back then. What we do with our lives – play music and travel the world – we basically live like homeless buskers for 8 months out of the year. Our new album Cavalcade was partly inspired by reading about those dire times during the Great Depression and realizing just how many parallels there are in these times we live in today. And our new song “Carry The Banner” fully embodies the theme of positivity in uncertain times. Negativity is overrated.
Smoke Or Fire release Prehistoric Knife Fight on March 16th and weâve got a sneak peek of one of their tracks titled âModestyâ streaming compliments of Alternative Press! Weâve also just posted our pre-order for this release which you can purchase digitally or on vinyl by going here. Additionally, weâve put both their CDâs on sale for $5 which you can buy here. Check out what Joe from SOF had to say about the track below:
I wrote the song about 7 years ago, the day my Father quit the job he had been at for about 25 years. He couldn’t stand it anymore, and one day just got up and walked out. I mainly played the song acoustic here and there, but we decided to work it into a full band song for the 7".
SOF added another SXSW show on Friday, March 19th! They perform at 2PM: 604 E. 6th St. above El Sol y La Luna at the corner of 6th St. and Red River.

The Real McKenzies will release Shine not Burn, their highly anticipated, intimate, bare bones, full acoustic album this summer. Shine not Burn will explore all the beauty of Scottish folk music at its best, with the lads incorporating mandolins, penny whistles, bag pipes and more. To give you a wee preview of what to expect weâve got a free download for you titled â10,000 Shotsâ and you can take a listen by going here! The Real McKenzies have a busy year planned, check out they had to say below:
Seventeen years ago we never dreamed that our fucked up lives and loves could have led to where we are today. Throughout fifteen of these blissful years we’ve enjoyed recording, touring and performing our Scottish-Canadian folk-rock all around the world. We’ve had the honor of playing massive venues, huge-decibel shows, and weekend-long Celtic rock festivals. But during these same tours we occasionally play quaint venues, dimly-lit squats, tiny pubs. It’s these concerts where we’ve loved closing in tight to our fans and enjoying an intimacy level that’s lost on the mainstage. In 2009 we toured with acoustic guitars, mandolins, penny whistles, 3-piece drums sets and upright basses, to drop the amplitude and try something new. We chose Wild at Heart in Kreuzberg, Germany to record one of these performances and put together a new release called ‘Shine not Burn’ (The original heraldic motto of the Clan McKenzie). From this live recording and the time we spent in Berlin in and around the performance, we’ve also compiled a great deal of video which we plan to release as a new DVD package entitled ‘The Real McKenzies Love You’ due for release in April of 2010. We’d like to thank our fans who provide us with constant inspiration and drive to continue representing our passions. Although once again we find ourselves with less than a sawbuck in the bank, we’re stoked to perform 3 Eurotours, a Canadian tour, and a whoever-the-hell-else-will-have-us tour in 2010. Cheers mates! We love you!
Check back soon as we will release album art, track listing and a solid release date soon!
