New Me First and the Gimme Gimmes Song!
Me First and the Gimme Gimmes have been more active than ever in 2017! With the release of their new retrospective— Rake It In: The Greatestest Hits —and their sold out shows across the continent, we wouldn’t blame them if they needed to take a break. However, they’re going on the road again in May, with a string of dates that culminates in their (mostly) annual slot at Punk Rock Bowling in Las Vegas! If the couple of rare b-sides on Rake It In didn’t slake your thirst for new Gimmes cover tunes, you’re in luck, as New Noise Magazine is giving you one more! The Gimmes grace the flexi subscriber cover of the new issue, which contains an exclusive flexi-disc single with a never-before-heard Gimmes tune, called “For the Good Times.” Written by Kris Kristofferson, (as was this mega-hit for Johnny Cash) and popularized by Ray Price, this country classic was recorded Gimmes-style during the Love Their Country album sessions, but didn’t make it past the “rough mix” stage. It still sounds great to us, though! If you don’t own a record player…um, why not?! Okay, okay…so, unlike us, you aren’t attached to spinning plastic discs for your musical enjoyment? Not to worry, just head to the FAT YouTube channel to listen to “For the Good Times,” and then go get your magazine & flexi!
