Punk veterans The Sainte Catherines have returned with their first new recording as a band since 2010, unveiling the new single “The Ordinary Dirt.”The release marks a long-awaited return for the beloved Montreal punk outfit and coincides with the 20th anniversary of their acclaimed Fat Wreck Chords album Dancing For Decadence. To commemorate the milestone anniversary, the band is issuing a limited-edition new pressing of the album.
“It feels unreal to release a song after more than 15 years. We found it on an old hard drive, and we had absolutely no memory of writing it. It was meant for Fire Works, our last record in 2010, but its Dancing For Decadence spirit and themes made it feel out of place back then, so it was left behind.When we listened to it again, it felt like hearing it for the first time. We were honestly moved. And somehow, the song feels even more relevant now. The same conservative people who once called us dirty are the ones being exposed as the dirtiest of all it seems. We tweaked some of the lyrics to make it relevant in today’s world.This song is a celebration of difference. At a time when being yourself feels more dangerous than ever, it reminds us that we still have to fight for who we are.”
